What is considered high blood pressure?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: High Blood Pressure

I have a 17 year old son who is 6′6 he weighs 205lbs. Hes very athletic, plays basketball for his high school. In this area that means 11 out of 12 months of practice or games. His blood pressure is running 140/90 at rest and 145/110 after practice. His doctor doesnt seem concerned but that seems high especially for someone in peak physical condition.

140/90 is just at the peak of high blood pressure I would get a second opinion for sure

Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is a surgical procedure used to correct carotid stenosis (narrowing of the carotid artery lumen by atheroma), used particularly when this causes medical problems, such as transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) or cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs, strokes). Endarterectomy is the removal of material on the inside (end-) of an artery. Angioplasty and stenting of the carotid artery are undergoing investigation as alternatives to carotid endarterectomy.

Subject is male, 49 years old, low to moderate physical activity, healthy BMI, moderate stress.

Low salt diet, low fat diet, exercise. If this does not work then a trip to the doctor is warranted as prescription meds may be needed for blood pressure control.
