Has anyone on high blood pressure medication been on it for 30 years or more?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Blood pressure medication

I’ve just found out I have severe hypertension and I’d like to know how many years my life expectancy is. I will take my meds and adjust my diet and habits but, even if I do this, how many years do I have? I’m extremely afraid and been crying my heart out.

I was in the military and running 3 miles a day and ended up with high blood pressure. I was 210/110 most of the time and i was put on medication. I decided one day to get off the medication. I totally changed my diet and lowered my stress. I don’t take medication any more and I have normal blood pressure. So you can change it and work with it. With today’s medication knowledge of nutrition and exercise you can live a full and long life even with high blood pressure. Remember you have high blood pressure but it is only really dangerous if you don’t treat it. If you treat it and control it you should have no worries. Consult your doctor they will explain it better and help you get to your goal.

high blood pressure happens because of what you eat
I had it and got rid of it. Go to a health food store and tell them you have high blood pressure. now test them to see if they are knowledgeable
    they should recommend this
cinnamon 500 mg, fish flaxseed borage oil, odorless Garlic 1000 mg

now stop eating after seven pm food converts to fat while you sleep.
    exercise 45 minutes daily
    sleep 7 -8 hours
    eat healthy food, vegetables, fruits,
you could live to be 100 years

There is no need to cry and worry. That will just make your bp shoot up higher! Blood pressure medication will help keep your bp under control.

You can help the meds, and eventually get off them, maybe, by changing your ways.

Get your weight down to ‘ideal’ for your age and height. Your doctor can help you find that.

Cut out as much sugar, fat, and carbohydrates as you can to lose the weight.

At the same time get going on a regular exercise routine. You need to get your cardiovascular system going. Thirty minutes a day minimum should be your goal. But make sure they are good minutes where you start breathing hard and break out into a sweat. You will have to build up to thirty, so don’t get discouraged if you can’t do ten the first week or two.

In answer to your questions? I have been on bp meds for twenty years now. Quit the job, booted the kids out, loosing weight, increasing physical activity, and almost off the pills.

My husband has out-of-whack adrenal glands and has to take bp meds too. He has been on meds now for 35 years and doing fine. He would do better if he lost weight too, but I got tired of talking to the wall. His adrenals won’t get better, so the meds protect his kidneys as well as his brain. We are happy.

    Hi Acha,

I am sorry to note that you have severe hypertension. The good news is that hypertension is easily managed and you can have a normal life expectancy. Your life expectancy will depend on how well you look after yourself. Nobody can predict it.

Nowadays, even people with heart failure can live normally. You may want to read this article on controlling BP without medications however it is not suitable for you if you have severe hypertension. I wrote this article. My pen name is Shergill.

Don’t be afraid……just get it under control. Hypertension controlled with medication will not harm you. I’m 71 years old and have been on medication for nearly 50 years.

But you need to exercise on a regular basis, lose weight (if over weight), eat the right foods (low in sodium – salt) and have good sleeping habits. Get in shape and stay in shape if you are really serious about your situation.

Live a good clean life….."don’t burn the candle at both ends" as I was told by a doctor in my younger days.

Do not drink alcohol, beer, or wine…..these can interfere with your medication.

BTW, have you had your kidneys checked to see if that may be the cause of you hypertension? It has been said 90% of hypertension is "essential" hypertension……meaning the doctors don’t know for sure what is causing it. The remaining 10% can be identified.

Good luck to you and God Bless You.

Oh my dear there is no need to cry about it, if you have it under control with medication and try hard to cut out salt, don’t be afraid.
I found out I had severely high blood pressure when I was 29 years old and I an now 75 years old and I’m in great shape, I take my meds everyday and it is under control and I don’t even think about it. I also have exercised all those years and still do I belong to Curves and it’s great, keep your weight under control too. You can do it. Concentrate on those things and not how long you’ll live. Good Luck.
