UPDATE: CHECK OUT MY NEW VIDEO LESSON! I discuss how you can make a funky ride cymbal groove out of a paradiddle.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=hhnwxf2o36c

In this lesson:
I go over how you can pull accents out of a double stroke roll. You can use this in fills, or soloing.

This is my first video lesson, so I would love to hear any feedback what so ever regarding teaching method, the material, or anything. Also, feel free to ask questions. I will be happy to answer them. And let me know if I was in any way helpful! I would love to hear some success stories. Thanks for watching!

P.S. I do not suggest imitating the way I hold my sticks in this video. The right hand was situated in such a way that ended up giving me carpel tunnel, and the left hand has many flaws as many people have pointed out. My doubles also had a very choked sound. I no longer play traditional grip, and have been taught much more appropriate ways to handle the sticks with matched grip that are more healthy and efficient.

Its my opinion that you have a way with breaking down the basic roll rudiments unlike I’ve ever seen before(A+B RRLL) or as the five stroke roll. Good job!

    Go pick up ” …
Go pick up “Progressive Steps to Syncopation for the Modern Drummer (Ted Reed) .” from your local music store. It has practical independence drills similar to what you’re trying to do. It really starts slow too, so I think it’ll be helpful. For example, the first 2 pages are simply quarter notes/rests with both hands. Also, it’s only like $8 (cost of a sandwich)

The best way to do …
The best way to do this is to start extremely slow, concentrating on what each hand is doing. Once you are comfortable with playing it really slow, and you can take your mind out of it a little bit, once it feels more natural, then slowly increase the tempo. Continue increasing the tempo until desired speed is achieved. Patience, and consistent practice are also valuable. Good luck!

Hey i was wondering how do you play two tottally different things with both of your hands for example if i wanna play ????? with my left hand and just play a steady ? ? ? ? beat with my right hand. Well the hand that plays the steady beat when i play the other tottally copies the other, and i can only do beats when i stop playing on 1 of my sticks i dont know how to help it i probably explained this wierd but il make another comment i guess and il try ot make more sense of it.
