How can someone prevent from having a stroke?
Would like insight about all the different ways that stroke can be prevented ( medication, food, treatment, whatever else), as many different ways as there are for a stroke victim to prevent further relapses. Specific information desired.
Knowing your risk factors and living healthfully are the best steps you can take to prevent a stroke.
* Control high blood pressure (hypertension).
* Lower your cholesterol and saturated fat intake.
* Don’t smoke
* Control diabetes
* Maintain a healthy weight
* Exercise regularly.
* Manage stress.
* Drink alcohol in moderation, if at all.
* Don’t use illicit drugs
Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is a surgical procedure used to correct carotid stenosis (narrowing of the carotid artery lumen by atheroma), used particularly when this causes medical problems, such as transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) or cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs, strokes). Endarterectomy is the removal of material on the inside (end-) of an artery. Angioplasty and stenting of the carotid artery are undergoing investigation as alternatives to carotid endarterectomy.
