What are the implications of a stroke in the left side of the brain?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Stroke

My father had a stroke in the left side of the brain. The doctor said the right side of his brain will now start to dominate the left side. What does all this mean in plain english?

Good Morning,
I had a stroke 20 years ago. It affected my right side. I couldn’t talk for One Year! Not One word! I was 35/asleep/with a terrible headache. The brain will heal it self in time! The cells will Take Over on the side that is NOT affected! You see, I have 1/2 a brain now, working Part time & drawing Soc. Sec. Disability Benfits. I can Talk, but it was a stuggle at the age of 35! Now, I am over 62 years, I thank God for every day because I am Alive. How old is your Father? Please Keep me informed! I will say a prayer for your Father. It is a Tough road to walk. Be Patient with him!

I am sorry to hear this
The brain is in two equal halfs Left side of the brain controls the rt side of the body and rt side controls the left side of the body. If your father had stroke on the left of the brain it means that the Rt side of the body function (like movements of the hand and feet, face etc) will be lost. There will be some recovery but depends how bad is the stroke and the cause of the stroke The bladder control and also the control of the bowls may some time be lost as well
Hope he gets better Good luck to all your family
